Match Report from Amy Stevens:
After a challenging first half that saw South Saxons 0-2 down at the break, the team came out firing in the second half, determined to turn things around. The hard work quickly paid off when a well-executed short corner saw Ruby Mason slot home our first goal early in the half.
Momentum stayed with Saxons, and it wasn’t long before Ruby struck again, levelling the score with another impressive finish. With the team playing confident, connected hockey, Worthing found themselves under increasing pressure.
Unfortunately, an unlucky break through the middle gave Worthing a late chance, which they managed to convert, taking the lead 2–3 with little time left on the clock. Saxons pushed hard to the end, dominating possession and territory, but just couldn’t quite find that final touch to equalise.
As Worthing rightly commented afterwards, “It wouldn’t be a South Saxons match without somebody shouting!” – and our passion and frustration definitely showed as the game went on.
There was, however, plenty to be proud of: strong passing play, clever use of our guard, and some really pretty hockey throughout. It was great to see the team putting into action the triangles and diamonds from training — linking up beautifully and creating real attacking threat.
