Lewes applied pressure from the start winning a short corner 2 minutes in only to put their shot wide of the Saxons goal. Despite some strong defending from Saxons, Lewes managed to score from open play on 14 minutes. The pressure continued and Lewes took a scrambled goal again from open play after breaking Saxons sideline press. Lewes continued to apply pressure and a succession of three penalty corners could not be capitalised on by the Lewes side. The first half ended 0-2 to Lewes.

A rousing half time talk Saxons returned to the pitch with renewed determination Lewes failed to covert 6 successive penalty corners. Saxons countered and a penalty corner to Saxons in the 60th minute enabled Acott to slot the ball into the Lewes goal. Saxons trailing 1-2 fought for an equaliser. However it was Lewes who managed to break through and score their third on 72 minutes.
