Match Report: Abi Merison

Our women’s 1s had a sterling match this afternoon away at Polo Farm despite tough opposition. The game started strong with the team making brilliant tackles and subsequent links between the defence and midfield to distribute the ball up the pitch towards our forwards.

Possession was equal throughout and the team put in maximal energy and effort making the game anyone’s to win.

Canterbury managed to capitalise on a short corner close to halftime despite our legendary Ellie Studholme just getting her stick to the ball.
Close to half-time, our trooper Jem Beal sustained an injury to her knee putting us down to 11 players.

After an energising team talk from Captain Caitlin Merison and Top Coach James Wilson, the team set out strong with their heads back in the game.

With several opportunities and elite defending work, Saxons managed to work as a pack to keep the ball out.

A hit from the top right of the D and a scramble in front of the goal mouth lead to ball bobbling over the line and Canterbury getting their second goal.

Saxons played brilliantly together throughout and the season ahead looks very promising!
