Southwick grabbed a second on the hour to make a nervous final 10 but Saxons remained in full control with a defence well-marshalled by man-of-the-match Phil Carrington.
Buckner said: "Credit goes to my vice captain Paul Merison who came up with the new formation. "The lads embraced it and it worked very well. We have found a natural goal scorer in young Joe and he's definitely giving me a run for my money for top scorer this season."
