Playing inspired hockey from start to finish, Sol Buckner's troops pushed their high-flying visitors to the limit at Horntye Park.
Teenage talent Olli Beal spurned a golden opportunity to open the scoring firing inches wide of goal after a first break on eight minutes. The 16-year-old then missed another glorious chance after going one-on-one with the keeper but allowed the defence to clear the danger.
And on 20 minutes Jonathan Lowe missed another chance to open the scoring from a well worked short corner.
Saxons defence held firm until the break but was almost undone within minutes of the restart when a drilled ball across goal found an unmarked player. Thankfully the chance was wasted.
Mid Sussex pressed hard for the opener but Saxons resisted time and time again.
Buckner almost broke the deadlock with a fierce angled shot which the young keeper just managed to edge past the far post.
The visitors laid seige on Saxons goal in the last 15 minutes but failed to find a way through.
But with the game heading for stalemate Saxons shot themselves in the foot when a tame cross slipped through
keeper Derek Pharoah's legs, the very last action of the match.
Buckner said: "In 22 years of league hockey I have never witnessed anything like this. We could have taken all three points and should have come away with at least one."
