The hosts raced into a two goal lead inside the first five minutes leaving another uphill task for Sol Buckner's side.
Tom Waters, Paul Merison and Jonathan Lowe all went close but could not find a way past a young keeper in inspired form.
Mid Sussex then grabbed two more on the break before half-time.
Buckner's team talk and change in formation paid off in the second half. Saxons poured forward and were rewarded on 52 minutes when Paul Merison tapped in Buckner's pinpoint cross.
Despite bossing the game, Saxons could not get past the host's keeper and go into the Christmas break in fifth place in the league.
Skipper Buckner said: "If we'd played the second half like we did in the first it would have been much closer.
"It's been a tough first half of the season but we must learn from it and improve in the second half."
