TOUGH START FOR MEN'S 4'S

Saxons started the league campaign against one of the title favourites, a newly formed Middleton II's side. Boasting five ex first teamers this boosted the away side and was the difference between the sides.

Saxons pressed from the off but the away keeper was in excellent form denying Coach Rob Whitehouse, (playing due to player shortage despite being retired), Paul Merison and Pete Watters. Two quick counterattacks saw the away side gain the upper hand and added a very similar third before halftime.

Stern words at half time saw Saxons come out firing and pulled one back when a short corner rebound allowed Merison to slot the ball home. Warriors Bailey Wright, Jonathan Orr and Man of the Match Guillaume Green were outstanding in their first men’s match.

Middleton’s experienced players scored two more breakaway goals with clinical precision. A well worked Saxons short corner saw Julian Hooton cannon a ball towards the near post for Merison to casually deflect into the roof of the net.

Coach Whitehouse commented “ we have a points target to finish mid table which is very possible, we will play better teams than us this season but will target those teams likely to finish around us”
