An Ode to the slightly less old!

In a land of the boomers, sleeping Joe’s and old fogeys,
With skins like satsumas and noses of bogeys,
It was into this strand of senile dinosaurs
That South Saxons planned a trial of almost double-digit scores,
With a team much younger and hair much less grey,
With the notable exception of an aging PK,
At 4.30pm, notably late in the day,
When sun’s golden rays shone straight down on play,
That South Saxons started a campaign of full of zest,
As they unleashed with out restrain an impressive goal-fest,
First was a short corner, the ball hit straight into combat,
To be tapped past the post by the newly captained Matt,
Next up was Will, who was meant to be sweeper,
But scored with a thrill straight pass the keeper,
Jamie then scored after into the D he did stroll,
It was unfortunate then that South Saxons scored next an own goal,
From the foot of Matt who appeared slightly confused,
By which end of the pitch and which goal was to be used,
But he soon excused himself when with ankle bruised,
He perused up the pitched and another goal he enthused,
Half-time came with wise words from Paul to decree “Yeah, just keep doing that”
said Paul while waiting for a goalie to disagree,
And then into the second session, the team ventured out,
With aggression indentured for another goal blowout,
The goal getting continued with James and Charlie adding to the hoard,
One into the top netting and the other onto the backboard,
Then finally as the game was nearer the end,
It was time for Tim down the pitch to descend and the score line extend,
Standing lowly in the D unseen by the irate keeper,
Tim stalked a goal like a waiting grim reaper,
The ball bounced through and then a few feet from the goal line,
Tim pounced in the heat with a finish quite divine,
With the score 7-1, and just minutes to play,
Saxons looked back at defence and saw with dismay,
That subbed on in full kit and looking quite merry,
Was Paul who was trying to pull a John Terry,
“We did it with grit, and a team spirit well-knit” Paul did acquit,
and then he did spit “I’m glad to have been a vital part of it”
