Saxons march on. Worthing Penguins 3s 0 --v-- 4 South Saxons 4's

Saxons moved a giant step towards the league title with a win agianst a strong Penguins side which at one point included five players from a higher side!

Coach Rob Whitehouse gave an insperational team talk and his words paid off when a training ground move saw 'Man of the Match', Dom Whitaker beat his marker on the right wing, drive to into the D, pulling the ball back perfectly for Joe Woodford to sweep home with only a minute and 24 seconds played.

The mid field pairing of Sol Buckner and Jez Bunday bossed the play. Wingers Tom Waters and Jamie Ball used the width of the pitch adding to the attacking threat. Captain Phil Carrington was at his imperious best with the experienced Mo Pickard, Julian Hooton and Nigel Kellett blunting any attacks.

A half time rocket from Whitehouse about concentration and choosing the simple options, saw Saxons in more determented mood and a greater cutting edge. A excellent tactical change saw Bunday go up front and Ball move into the middle, this sparked life into the attacking play, and a one two between Bunday and leading scorer Warren Hood, saw Hood fire past the home keeper.

Less than two minutes later Hood struck again after a pass from Whitaker. Penguins were shell shocked and a quick thinking Bunday played a perfect defence splitting pass to find Whitaker unmarked to slot home.

Saxons suffered a major loss though when Kellett took a nasty blow to his hand which now rules him out for the season.

Whitehouse commented after the game " We played very well, worked hard and now have one hand on the league title. Nigel will be a huge loss and all the lads want to win it for him"

Saxons remain nine points clear with a game in hand, and victory tomorrow over Eastbourne will see them go 12 clear.

Team: Heath (GK), Pickard, Kellett, Hooton, Carrington (c), Waters, Whitaker, Buckner, Bunday, Woodford, Hood and Ball.
