In front of a bumper home crowd Saxons extended their perfect start to season with a one sided win. Saxons were under instructions from Coach Rob Whitehouse to start fast and the home side did just that. Constant pressure and ball pace were tearing Southwick apart.
The dominant midfield of Ed Chapman, George Berthon, Paul Merison and the much improved Dom Whitaker controlled things from the off. The added movement of the returning Warren Hood up front, saw Saxons force the away keeper into save after save.
Chances went begging but a flowing passing move resulted in Hood tapping in at the back post. Jeremy Bunday quickly made it two with a powerful strike. Southwick’s keeper was very busy, while at the other end Saxons’ defence were left to chat to each other and make the occasional break forward.
The home side saw chances miss the post by inches as they searched for more goals. Whitaker went on a mazy run past three defenders and somehow squeezed the ball past the keeper using his reverse stick. The half time chat this week was “more of the same”, with those word still ringing in their ears, Hood added another tap in when found by Bunday.
The goals gave Saxons even more confidence to knock the ball around and an outstanding twenty pass move saw Hood complete his hat trick. A Chapman thunderbolt from the top of the D saw him score first ever goal.
There was still time for one more and Joe Woodford slipped the ball to Merison who popped up at the back post to send the crowd wild.
The jump of joy from a delighted Whitehouse at the final whistle showed his satisfaction at a near perfect team performance. Saxons now sit six points clear at the top of the table.
