Winning run continues against strong side

Saxons travelled to Worthing in the top of table clash. From the off it was obivous Worthing had a much changed side from normal but Saxons started fast and a short corner saw Paul Merison score with one minute twenty seconds on the clock.

Worthing started to press and the steady defence of Nigel Kellett, Les Cornish and Mo Pickard showed why they are the leagues best defence and stopped any shots on goal. Julian hooton and Jez Bunday held the strong Worthing midfield at bay. The play was end to end and Saxons went close with more short corners and near misses.

Half time came and a blunt team talk from coach Rob Whitehouse, saw Saxons go in search of a second goal to kill the game off. A three on one was wasted and more near misses increased the momentum in Worthings favour, captain Phil Carrington stood firm and made some outstanding tackles. Saxons' midfield started to tire, and a slick passing move saw Worthing score past 'Man of The Match' keeper Alex Jenner.

A tactical substution saw Saxons go for the deserved winner, using the wings and quick passing saw them earn a short corner in last minute of the game. A copy of the first goal, saw Merison tap in at the back post with the final hit of the game.

A relived Whitehouse commented after the game " A massive win, it was a very tough game and we kept going to the end. We need to be more clinical in front of goal and choose the right options at the right times" Saxons remain unbeaten and three points clear with a game in hand.
