4s still unbeaten and top of the league

Saxons went on the road in search of extending their unbeaten start to the season. A young, skillful Mid sussex side awaited them and a very competative game was in store. Saxons were under orders to start quickly and press high, this tactic worked and wave after wave of Saxons finally lead to Tom Radeamaker side stepping the keeper to slot home, after good work from Alex Bull. Mid sussex woke up after the goal and some slick passing hockey of their own lead to a short corner. From the short corner 'man of the match' Nigel Kellett made the first of two goal line clearences to keep Saxons ahead. More attacking intent from Saxons saw chances come and go, with the home keeper making excellent saves, or a saxons player choosing the wrong opition in attack. After a blunt team talk from Coach Rob Whitehouse, Saxons started the second half in determined mood, looking to kill the game off. Chances were wasted once again with Dom Whitaker choosing to shoot rather than pass to an open player on a few occations. Finally the pressure paid off and George Berthon worked his way in to the D and scored his first goal for the club. Despite the best efforts of keeper Rich Heath and defenders Les Cornish and Mo Pickard, Mid Sussex scored from a short corner which looked very hashly given. Saxons stood firm and ended the game with a vital win. Whitehouse commented " We should have won far more easily, we need to be more clincial and take our chances in games"

Team: Heath, Cornish, Kellett, Pickard, Hooton, Bull, Berthon, Whitaker, Woodford, Wright, Radeamaker, Carrington.
