Saxons travelled to Kent for this pre season friendly against a well organised Black Knights side.
With a club shortage of players and no sub, coach Rob Whitehouse came out of retirement to play in a new centre midfield role alongside Paul Merison.
The away side started strongest and came close through Whitehouse and Jo Woodford. Knights took the lead when Saxons switched off and left a free man in the D to slot past Richard Heath in goal.
Saxons hit back when a lovely passing move saw Merison flick the ball into the roof of the net. Another two pieces of poor defending let Knights extend their lead.
The second half belonged to Saxons as they pressured and hurried their opponents into mistakes, the home keeper making a number of vital saves to deny Saxons.
A well practiced penalty corner saw Captain Philip Carrington fire a ball on target only to have it deflected away by a defender. A lightning quick reaction from Merison at the near post saw him parry the airborne ball home, for a second goal.
A breakaway goal ended matters and Saxons will look for revenge in the return match this weekend.
Maurice Pickard was 'man of the match'.
