Brock Smith pulled off a string of first class saves to ensure his side returned home with all three points in this tough Sussex Hockey Division Two fixture.
Saxons started strongly and got their rewards in the 10th minute when Paul Merison fired in from close range following a penalty corner.
The visitors worked hard to double their advantage but could not take their chances.
And Mid Sussex equalised on 26" in open play to set up an equally competitive second half.
The hosts took more possession in the second half but Smith was equal to everything they could throw at him making several acrobatic close range saves.
Saxons sensed victory and kept threatening on the break. And when Jamie Sheldon raced up the pitch on 63" he squared to Sol Buckner who gratefully fired home from close range to seal the win.
