Saxons started strongly and in the opening minutes maintained control of the game. The team smoothly moved the ball around the back of the defensive line and midfield. Brighton struggled to get a touch on the ball. Despite some great play by Saxons in the first 10 minutes it was Brighton who managed to score first.
Saxons kept up the pressure. A pass around the Brighton keeper followed by a goal bound shot was prevented from crossing the line by a defenders foot. Unfortunately a penalty corner and not a penalty flick was given. The penalty corner was saved by the keeper and the game continued.
Half time arrived with Saxons down 1-0.
Saxons returned to the pitch and within 10 minutes Brighton extended their lead with a penalty corner.
With the score 2-0 to Brighton, Saxons suddenly found their way and Saxons pressure paid off with a penalty corner. A clever slip left allowed Paul Mason to flick the ball into the net to bring the scoreline to 2-1.
Brighton pushed for another goal and a break away gave Brighton the opportunity to score. Their attempt thwarted by Sutton who went to ground to make a save at the post. Saxons continued to fight on and with 2 minutes to spare Brighton struggled to keep them out. ‘Mr Square pass’ Buss senior made an impact by taking up a role higher up the pitch. A scramble in the D after a saved shot on goal allowed Paul Mason to tap the ball in at close range to level the score at 2-2.
The last couple of minutes were mainly Saxons pushing for the winner. Unfortunately this did not come and the final score ended in a 2-2 draw.
