Saxons started the game well and on the front foot, with the midfield playing the ball around comfortably, creating early chances but not being able to convert after some good efforts saved. Eastbourne began to grow into the game and began to dominate possession. Although Saxons defended very well with excellent tackling from the fresh faced James McIntyre, they eventually gave away a short corner that Eastbourne took clinically to go one nil up. Eastbourne very quickly received two more short corners and with well-run routines went 3-0 up.
Saxons not knocked down by the score line kept on battling with the, Ed Hooton working tirelessly in midfield continuing to drive at Eastbourne’s defence, linking up well with the speedy Matthew Constable and Tom Gregory. Man of the match Jonnie Orr worked tirelessly on the wing showing great character. However, South Saxons were unable to still unable to score. Eastbourne continued to attack and with balls flying from all angles the Saxons goal keeper George Sutton, did well to control his D making some great saves, however with no other option he was forced to lay down Eastbourne’s striker to give away a penalty flick that was taken to give Eastbourne a 4-0 advantage.
Very shortly afterwards a further penalty flick was awarded to Eastbourne following the ball hitting a James McIntyre’s foot on the goal line and again was taken to put Eastbourne 5-0 up at half time.
Eastbourne started the second half with the same intensity and very quickly added to their goal tally. With Saxons striker James Bunday struggling with an injury they lacked pace to their attack and did not look like scoring. An unfortunate hit to the Saxons skipper James Wilson left him nursing his foot on the side line leaving the team without any subs and eventually fatigue kicked in. Eastbourne with their 15 man squad took advantage of their fresh legs and pressed south Saxons scoring four more clinically taken goals to win 10-0. A very tough match for South Saxons but the team worked hard throughout the game and showed their fighting character.
