SAXONS travelled to Sevenoaks for their first league game of the new season in a higher league than last year.

Travelling with the bare eleven the team whilst excited by the challenge were understandably wary about the challenge that lay ahead against one of the top sides in the division.

The game started badly for the away side conceding a goal early on. However this spurred the team on to greater things. From a well won short corner Alex Coombs rifled his drag flick home.

The away team began to play with real purpose with the experienced defence boasting an average age of thirty eight, stifling all attempts of the away team to attack the Saxons goal.

The guile of Toby Read, the experience of Dom Ford, the ageless enthusiasm of Julian Buss and the raw speed of Gavin Cload more than matched the silky skills of the opponents. The game swung Saxons way with a well worked second goal, a James Bundy through ball was latched onto by Jamie Busbridge who coolly shot past the keeper.

With the central pairing of skipper Paddy Cornish and man of the match Coombs in their contrasting styles driving the team forward Saxons seemed to have a firm grip on the game. But with five minutes to go Sevenoaks won a dubious short corner and slotted the ball home which initiated a rousing finale from Saxons. A Coombs free hit fired into the circle found Busbridge who finished with aplomb. Special mention should also be made of Tudor Stainsby and Harry Reece for their tireless and productive work down the flanks.
