Mens 1st XI take a point at Ashford

Both sides came out of the gates firing and hungry for an opening day victory . Soon though, Saxons began to assert their dominance.

A host of early chances went begging as everything but the final ball came together. As frustrations grew so did complacency and Saxons found themselves heading into the break 2-0 down.

As both sides grew tired on a sweltering day Saxons team spirit and discipline shone through. This began to make a telling impact as, after a tactical change, Paddy Cornish fired in from a lovely passing move. As the game neared its end Ashford lost their heads and it cost them dearly. Saxons, with all their players still on the pitch, pushing and pushing in the final minutes until they were rewarded by Alex Coombs touching in after a goal mouth scramble to bring the score to 2-2.

Overall, a solid performance showing Saxons discipline and team spirit are key.
