Match report from Jamie Busbridge. South Saxons travelled to top of the league Sutton Valence with 3 players missing from the previous week. Dom Ford, Andrew Orr and Ed Hooten came in.

They settled into the game well playing a half court press. This enabled them to win the ball back and attack the space behind. Alex Coombs found Jamie Busbridge in the D but the ‘keeper closed quickly to snuff out the chance.

The game was tight and both teams competed passionately for every ball. The defence looked solid but a well drilled Sutton Valence side moved the ball around well creating overloads which led to Saxons going 3 goals down in the first half.

The aim for the second half was to restrict further chances in order to maintain a respectable scoreline. Saxons continued to play the ball around well in the defensive and midfield thirds but the final third saw attacks breaking down and even a sting of short corners were not enough to register a goal.

Sutton Valence were then awarded a penalty stroke for a challenge by Brock Smith as he was left exposed at the back. They duly converted and added a fifth goal shortly after.

Man of the Match votes were split between Chris Meredith as he fought against illness to put on an accomplished display and Dom Ford for a solid performance at centre back.
