Mid Sussex Ladies I’s 1 v 5 South Saxons Ladies I’s
Sussex Ladies League - Premier Division
Match Report from Laura Klein.

South Saxons Ladies I’s travelled to Burgess Hill to face Mid Sussex, watching the rugby on route! Wearing our new club shirts, Abi Merison scored early on in the game through some excellent passing, quickly followed by Heather Klein. Mid Sussex had some skilful players but Saxons defence continued to keep them at bay. After the half time break, Mid Sussex scored from a short corner but Saxons quickly responded from a quick rebound shot from Abi, making it 1-3. Saxons held possession, managed the game calmly and continued to defend resolutely. A strong goal from Beckie Cooper and a goal from Ellie Studholme finished the game 5-1.
Player of the Match went to Abi Merison for an absolute blinding performance!
DoD was Heather Klein

South Saxons Ladies II’s 5 - 1 Brighton and Hove Ladies V’s
Sussex Ladies League Division 1

Buoyant after last weeks 5-1 win against Honeybees I’s, South Saxons Ladies II’s faced Brighton and Hove Ladies in Sussex Division 1. Another solid performance from the team gave them their second 5-1 win in two weeks.

South Saxons Mens I’s 0 - 5 Worthing Mens I’s
Kent & Sussex Regional Division 1
Match Report by Jon Meredith

Saxons Men’s I’s went down 5-0 to Worthing in a sub par performance. Saxons struggled to get going in the opening exchanges and were punished early on as Worthing took the lead from the a short corner. Shortly after they doubled their lead deflecting home a ball in from wide leaving Mike Sutton with no chance in goal. Saxons finally begun to create some chances of their own, and came close when a short corner eventually fell to Josh Barraclough who hit the post from close range. The visitors took advantage of Saxons wastefulness and made it 3-0 before half time.

Saxons came out hard in the second half knowing an early goal would be crucial if they were to have any chance of taking points from the game. Waves of Saxons attacks forced a string of short corners, but the home side were still unable to score, the best chance falling to Barraclough who struck the post for the second time with the goal at his mercy. Worthing’s resolute defence continued to frustrate Saxons who struggled to turn possession into meaningful chances, and two late Worthing goals made the score 5-0. The score line undoubtedly flattered the visitors, but Saxons were left to reflect on a bad day at the office and will need to bounce back away to Kings & Allens next week.

Middleton Mens I’s 1 -4 South Saxons Mens II’s
Sussex Open League Division 1
Match Report by Ed Chapman

Saxons men's II’s took the long trip to Middleton on Saturday for a nice rainy game of hockey. Late drop outs by Ed Hooten and call up of returning from injury Ollie Beal meant we had a mostly fit team, although a few of the older boys were carrying the standard age related niggles and keeper George Sutton playing with a sickness bug! Saxons started brightly and scored with their first half chance when Ollie Beal skillfully finished off a reverse half volley amid some circle pinball.

A few minutes later Beal struck again with a drag flick right into the side netting! Gui Green added a 3rd within 20 minutes when he dribbled into the D and calmly finished.

The defensive quartet of McIntyre, Watters, Chapman and Ford were relatively untroubled in the first half with the exception of a few short corners.

The second half was a different story with Middleton making some very effective half time personnel and tactical changes. Saxons really struggled to keep the ball and play it through the 5 strong Middleton midfield. Despite Middleton's dominance of possession and territory they weren't able to create any clear cut chances. A badly miss-hit short corner found its way in midway through the second half and when captain Wilson was given a yellow along with another short there was a feeling that the tide could turn in favour of Middleton, especially when the short corner rifled off the outside of the post. Saxons put the game to bed when Gui Green picked the Middleton CB and fed Ollie Beal to complete his hattrick with a nice reverse finish. The game finished 4-1 to Saxons.

Man of the match was Ed Chapman for his solid defensive display. DoD was also Ed Chapman for literally anything he said or did!

Eastbourne Mens IV’s 0 - 8 South Saxons Mens III’s
Sussex Open League Division 2
Match Report by Rak Patel

A late afternoon push back saw the Saxons 3's take on Eastbourne. New shirts handed out team talk done and Ben Simmons made his role clear that he is in the team to score goals.

Early exchanges saw Saxons with a lot of possession and the possession was converted into goals with Sam Webster grabbing a first half brace. More possession led to more chances but unfortunately none were taken although Ben Simmons came close.

The second half was played mostly in a rain swept Saffrons and the second half took the same form of the first with Saxons dominating possession but this time chances were taken with Sam Webster adding four more goals to his tally taking it to six for the match.

Then in a late burst Jamie Sheldon slotted home from a tight angle after some good work by Ethan Chambers. Eastbourne began to claw back into the game as Tim Pilbeam auditioned for dancing on ice. As the game was drawing to a close Captain Brock Prestney-Vaughan gave Rak Patel the chance to show his skills upfront and he did not disappoint as he slotted home using the ‘bobbler’ technique ending the game 8-0.
Over all a great match played in great spirit.

MoM Mark Gray-Smith
DoD Tim Pilbeam for his ’Bambi on Ice’ impression.

South Saxons Mens IV’s 1 - 1 Southwick Mens II’s
Sussex Open League Division 3
Match Report by Sol Buckner

Another good effort from the lads today. Much stronger start but couldn't make the break through.

Aaron Holloway saved a penalty on his debut for the team.
Southwick then scored from a short on 22 and held till half time.

Saxons went forward again in second half and straight from the whistle Sol Buckner drove into their half and fired at their keeper. Tony Wright hit the rebound against the keeper and then young Warrior Louis Joyce swept home on his league debut to level. Thanks to Rak Patel for managing team. Thanks to Steve Jenner and Paul Whittington for umpiring.
