Paul Merison26 Apr - 18:25

South Saxons Hockey Club brought the curtain down on a successful 2025/26 season with their Club Dinner and Annual Awards Evening.

The event was a fantastic celebration of performance, commitment, and community across all sections of the club, recognising standout contributions from our senior teams.

The prestigious Men’s Player of the Year awards saw recognition spread across the club’s depth of talent. Jack Galliers claimed the top honour for the Men’s 1s, lifting the Michael Acott Cup, while strong seasons were also acknowledged for Jack Gurney (Men’s 2s), Pete Watters (Men’s 3s), Ben Kemsley (Men’s 4s), and Dan Benson (Men’s 5s).

In the women’s section, Lynn Upfold was awarded the John Bollom Shield as Women's 1s Player of the Year. Chloe Mellor took honours for the Women's 2s.

The club’s emerging talent was highlighted in the Young Player of the Year category, with James Rowland (Mens) and Daisy Darkins (Womens) both earning well-deserved accolades.

Meanwhile, the Most Improved Player awards went to Paul Mason (Mens) and Paige Dunford (Womens), reflecting significant development and commitment across the season.

The President’s Shield for Team of the Year was awarded to the Womens 1s, recognising a tough season after last years promotion, plagued with injuries, facing strong opposition but nonetheless playing in good spirit and discipline.

Off the pitch, the club also celebrated those whose efforts underpin the success of South Saxons. Simon Richardson was named Club Member of the Year, while Will Richardson picked up the The Sophie Ford Trophy for Young Club Member.

Simon Barden received the Club Umpire Award, highlighting the importance of officiating and volunteering within the club structure.

The evening was a fitting celebration of another strong year for South Saxons Hockey Club, showcasing not only success on the pitch but also the strength of its community, coaching, and volunteer network. With momentum building across all sections, the club looks ahead with confidence to the 2026/27 season.

Finally a big thank you to Jemima Beal from our Women's 1's who planned and organised this years dinner.
