Sophie’s family and friends came along to support the club, working in collaboration with
Sophie’s Writtle University friends who also ran a 5km fundraiser on 16th February 2024.

A rainbow of colours from Saxons players wearing home, away, tour shirts and some in their goalkeeping kit set off through the town centre towards the Old Town, around the crazy golf and along the sea front to Warrior Square for the final climb up Church Road and back to Horntye.

Finishers were greeted with cheers of encouragement and claps as team mates crossed the finish line.

A social tea and charity bake sale was held in the Horntye Bar. £357 raised by the bake sale was donated to Sophie’s favourite charity the Barby Keel Animal Sanctuary.

Special thanks goes to Oli Cornelius for working with Writtle students to organise the Saxons component of the event, and to all those who took part in the 5km run.

Also not forgetting thanks to the volunteer first aiders and those who kindly baked and donated some excellent cakes for the cake sale. Winner of guess the weight of the cake was Erzsi Jacobs.

The total raised on Just Giving on Sunday the 18th February had reached £3,852 in aid of the Barby Keel Animal Sanctuary.
