Paul Merison18 May - 19:30

South Saxons’ rising umpire talent Will Richardson has been selected for England Hockey’s prestigious National Young Umpire Program.

South Saxons are delighted to celebrate Wills fantastic achievement. Will has officially been accepted onto the prestigious National Young Umpire Program (NYUP) following a highly competitive selection process.

The news came in correspondence from the NYUP Committee, who praised Will’s “commitment, performance, and potential as a young umpire” after an impressive tournament showing and strong overall application.

Selection onto the National Young Umpire Program is a significant milestone for any developing official within the England Hockey pathway. The programme is designed to support talented young umpires through advanced development opportunities, high-quality mentoring, and exposure to national-level hockey environments.

Will’s inclusion is recognition not only of his growing technical ability and game management skills, but also of the dedication and professionalism he continues to demonstrate in his officiating journey.

The NYUP Committee highlighted that participants in the programme will benefit from structured mentoring led by the NYUP leadership team, helping young officials continue their development both on and off the pitch.

Everyone at South Saxons congratulates Will on this outstanding accomplishment. His selection is another excellent example of the club’s growing contribution to hockey development across both playing and officiating pathways.

We look forward to following Will’s continued progress as he embarks on the next stage of his umpiring journey at national level.
