Chairmans report for 2018/2019 released for club AGM

Introduction
I have decided to circulate this report ahead of Friday’s AGM to ensure as many of you can see it as possible. I will take questions in the meeting as required but enabling us to keep the AGM to a discussion of key points going forward. Bearing in mind it is the beer festival as well.

Review of the Year
Playing wise the club has had another strong year with 3 promotions, an extra team fielded throughout the season. Therefore congratulations to the Ladies 1st XI who return to the Sussex Premier League after an unbeaten league season, to the Mens 1st XI who will be playing in Kent Sussex 1, their highest league for many years and the Ladies 2nd XI who will be playing at the highest level they have ever reached.

We ran an extra junior team, the Arrows, last year showing the strength of the junior section numbers, with Sunday numbers continuing to run at high levels. Whilst results were mixed they all seemed to really enjoy their matches and my thanks go to the junior coaches for their commitment to this group.

All other sides remained in their existing leagues and played some excellent hockey as well.
As I go round the County umpiring it is clear to see that we are one of the really vibrant clubs at the moment and whilst great to see we also need to keep focused on maintaining this feeling within the club

Finance Overview
Pete will give the full overview at the AGM however we will be reporting a break-even position for the year which was our aim going in to the season. We have however been able to invest in coaching courses and kit during the season and will look to maintain this during next season.

Horntye relocation
I will give a more detailed update at the meeting but in summary;
• The Trustees are still in discussion with the developer about a move. The developer now has a housebuilder engaged so this is a positive step forward
• We will not leave Horntye before Jan 20 at the earliest, so the first half of the season will be at Horntye
• We have confirmation that we will be able to use Bexhill Academy for matches until the new pitch is delivered
• Location of the new pitch is still to be confirmed
• We will be carrying out some repairs to the pitch in time for September

Next Season
We will be launching a 3rd junior side as we believe we have the numbers to accommodate this. In an ideal scenario we will run a girls team in the Ladies development league for the first time ever and retain 2 in the boys league although continuing to use some girls. To accommodate the numbers junior training on a Thursday will move to Vinehall school.
Mens and Ladies will continue with the same teams as last year, our aim must be to translate junior players into additional adult teams subject to adequate pitch time on match days.
As a club we will be required to provide an additional umpire to the panel which will add pressure to the demand for players to umpire matches at the club.

Club administration
As ever, we need people to volunteer to do roles within the club, we have an ongoing need for umpires, coaches and committee. So please step up and commit to helping to build the club.

This year we need a new fixture secretary and umpire co-ordinator and have a need to re-structure senior mens coaching.

The annual subs will be agreed at the AGM and information circulated as soon as possible so those wishing to use DD can sign up in August/September.

It is our intention to start to use our website to drive all club communications so it is important that you all register on the website and please accept receiving emails. Without the ability to push emails out to all members it is proving impossible to communicate with the whole club. Currently we have 304 signed up members on the site but only 105 that we can contact!

At the AGM we will be deciding on new shirts for the club next year with a proposal to be made to include the cost in the subs for this coming season to ensure that all players are in the right kit. A couple of designs will be on display at the AGM and we will voting on the preferred option on the evening to ensure we can get stock in September.

An incentive for you to attend the AGM!

The chosen design will continue to be essentially sky blue with enough design and other colours to prevent clashes with white shirts.

As ever I would like to thank all those who administered, captained, umpired and coached in the club last season. Thankyou

Jeremy
