After a slow start our vets team of 'past monarchs' found themselves in the final of the Le Touquet veterans competition.

A first night of merriment and debauchery was made most memorable by a drunken royal swan dive demonstration, from the top of a triple bunk bed, by our tour virgin 'The Unready', that resulted in a giggling 'Bloody Mary' keeping 'Soft Sword' up half the night!

'Saxons of Hastings' vets team got off to a shaky start in the competition losing their first game 1-5 to Lille side 'Docksteam'.

A much closer game ensued against 'La Parisienne' but despite a good team effort the opposition scored a goal in the dying minutes of the game and Saxons settled for a 2-1 defeat.

With the royal wedding in full flow and the brutal 'King Rufus' at the helm, day two saw an improved performance with Saxons beating 'NivNam' 5-0. Bouyed by the result Saxons found themselves in a rematch against 'La Parisienne' in the semi-final, this time Saxons dominated and a left the field with a 4-1 victory and a place in the final.

As the final commenced Saxons drew their battle lines on the water based astro. An early foray disappointed as 'The Conqueror' who should have left the shooting to his archers shot wide of an open goal. Rumour had it that there was a french conspiracy taking place and that Docksteam centre forward (AKA French agent, 'Raoul d’Equesnes') took out 'Rufus' with a crunching blow to the hand, forcing him to retire from the field early. Battle hardened Saxons were ultimately outwitted and outclassed 6-0 by 'Docksteam' and came away with the consolation runners up trophy.

Special thanks to Julian Buss for organising the entertaining 'Royal Wedding' tour shirts emblazoned on the rear with nicknames of previous monarchs! We will let you 'our club members and supporters' be the judge of how fitting the nicknames are for our players.
