NICKNAME: Curiously I've never had a hockey nickname... unless you include 'Custer' as in "F**k off Custer!" from an Old Bordenians centre forward back in the old grass pitch and long-haired days.
AGE: 61
PERIOD PLAYING HOCKEY: 1968 to 2015
PERIOD PLAYING HOCKEY AT SOUTH SAXONS : as above
BEST MEMORIES:
- Captaining a 4th XI where one game every player had a name (or nickname) beginning with the letter 'B'... incidentally that side finished the season: P24 - W8 D8 L8 with a zero goal difference - my captain's report to the AGM was "Average season..."
- Easter 4th XI festivals at South Saxons.
- Changing rooms at Charlton Park... long story but ask any (senior) Burnt Ash player you come up against.
- Coggon's 3rd XI - the hockey was good and the journeys home epic... ask him about the badger on the Hawkhurst road or Duncan Paul's Renault 5 Gordini.
- Bob Phillips' 2nd XI - I'm sure I remember that one season we didn't concede a goal until just before Christmas.
- In the days of a 'marking centre-back' riling my opposing centre forward so much he took a swing at me and got sent off - and then getting ticked off by the umpire when I followed him behind the goal. That was a 2nd XI cup semi-final against Horsham which we won on penalties (see below).
- Playing a couple of games for the 1st XI in Tim Eldridge's days as captain - proud or what!
- Watching Stade de France ladies vs Racing Club of Paris St Germain ladies at Le Touquet with Digger one sunlit evening... you had to be there!
- Taking el Pres (and Mrs Pres) on a season long pub crawl round Kent just before Andrew was born.
- My Arec stick with a kink in it.
- I could go on and on... you get the picture!
WORST MEMORIES:
- Any Paul Whitt tackle...
- Losing the 2nd XI cup final to Worthing back around 1990.
