ALL HOCKEY IN SUSSEX AND SOUTH LEAGUES CANCELLED

ALL HOCKEY IN SUSSEX AND SOUTH LEAGUES CANCELLED

Paul Merison17 Mar 2020 - 07:20

We have received an announcement from the Sussex Hockey League and South Hockey Leagues

England Hockey has suspended the whole of the National hockey programme and has advised that all hockey should be suspended until April 15th .

England Hockey Announcement

“In light of the ongoing effects of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and government advice, England Hockey has taken the decision to suspend its nationally run hockey activity.

This includes our competition and domestic events programme, Player Pathway activity and national youth programmes until at least 15 April. We have already issued an update with regards to our AGM on 17 March.

We would urge leagues, clubs, schools, Player Pathway centres and others who deliver hockey on a local level to support this approach.

This decision will impact activities at differing levels and scale. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and react as best we can during these unprecedented times. We'll keep everyone in the hockey family as up to date as possible and look forward to hockey returning to normal when the time is right.”

Sussex League Response
This means training and all games, regardless of whether they are adult or junior leagues, county fixtures or inter club fixtures in Sussex are to be cancelled awaiting further information.
Further details on how unplayed games will be played and/ or contingency plans for any rearrangement of fixtures will follow from leagues in due course. League positions will need to be looked at for promotion and relegation within adult leagues, and the possible reorganisation of play offs. All Junior county hockey will be suspended and all Junior tournaments are to be cancelled or postponed.

South League Response
Public Health - By decision of the officers acting as the emergency committee, the League will follow Government and EH advice and in common with virtually all other leagues, suspend all league hockey immediately until further notice. Further advice will follow when suitable. Mike Ward, Chairman.

South Saxons will monitor the situation and advise club members and supporters when we have any further news.
