Saxons found a youthful Eastbourne 4th XI a challenge in this away fixture.

Saxons were greeted at Saffrons by bright sunshine and unseasonably warm conditions. Buss's men got off to a strong start and within five minutes it was Buss who scored from open play to put the visitors ahead.

Six minutes later eastbourne conceded a penalty corner. A pinpoint injection from Ed Stroud was finished with a powerful strike by Buss. Saxons were leading 0-2. Eastbourne fought back and a breakaway attack caught Saxons defence napping when skilful Eastbourne forward took the ball past three Saxons players to slot home.

Saxons went into the break leading 1-2.

After the restart Saxons pushed forward and a crunching tackle outside the D was upgraded to a penalty corner. Buss again striking the ball well from the top of the D for a hat-trick.

Eastbourne again responded with a well worked attack the umpire playing the advantage as Eastbourne found a foot on the edge of the D. An Eastbourne winger finishing with a strong strike that clipped a Saxons foot, the deflection wrong footing George Sutton who could only watch the ball cross the goal line.

Within minutes Eastbourne were on the break again and a shot in the D found the backboard to level the score at 3-3.

This woke up Saxons, who pushed forward with another attack and found an Eastbourne foot in the D for another penalty corner. Buss again finding the backboard with ease.

Eastbourne responded with further attacks only to be repelled Trevor Davies and the defensive trio of Phil Carrington, Roger Coleman and Dan Bontoft.

Another surge forward by Saxons earned a penalty corner. This time the strike from Buss found the keepers pads and was picked up by Ben Kemsley whose goal bound flick was spectacularly deflected in the air past the post man by 'man of the match' Harry Dyas.

During the final few minutes Saxons pushed for more opportunities. Saxons won another penalty corner struck by Buss to bring the score to 3-6.
