Saxons took no prisoners in their away fixture against Penguin II's

Saxons visited Penguin hoping to improve on the 5-1 win they achieved when both sides met earlier in the season. Saxons did not under estimate their opposition as although Saxons lay 4th in the table with 40 goals scored, Penguins goalscoring record was 43, their attacking prowess only muddied with a poor defensive record of 70 goals conceded.

Saxons settled into the game quickly and after 5 minutes a penalty corner routine allowed Ben Kemsley to set up Paul Merison who lifted the ball over the goalkeeper.

A second push forward resulted in another penalty corner for Saxons. A neat bone crunching strike from Julian Buss headed for the corner of the goal only to be stopped by a defenders foot on the line. Buss stepped up for the penalty flick and with 'Jonny Wilkinson' footwork converted the opportunity over the crossbar.

Saxons continued to press forward and a slick pass from Ed Stroud allowed Merison to carry the ball forward and lay off to Buss who squared to Dom Whitaker who made no mistake in burying the ball in the back of the goal to make the score 0-2.

Saxons play was flowing and some inspired interplay between Julian Buss and Ben Simmons allowed Buss to grab another goal before the the half time break.

With the score at 0-3 Saxons went into the break hungry for more goals to feed their goal difference.

Penguin started to push forward and press Saxons high for the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Saxons frequently breaking down the Penguin press and launching attacks into the oppositions D. Pressure told and a 50/50 shoulder challenge saw the umpire produce a green card and dismiss Ed Stroud for two minutes.

With Saxons down to ten men they switched to defensive play. A shot from a breakaway Saxons attack was deflected by a defender over the back line. Merison stepped up for the long corner and carried the ball 5 metres before slipping the ball to Simmons in the D whose crisp shot rattled the backboard of the goal.

Strouds' return to the field made an instant impact when he threaded the ball to Buss who made a pinpoint pass to Ben Kemsley who made it 0-5 to Saxons.

Minutes later 'Man of the match' Ben Simmons and Buss teamed up again and for Buss to rifle the ball home for his second of the game.

Penguins responded the searching balls forward one such ball found a skilful Penguins player who rounded Saxons defence leaving Merison to make a somewhat desperate tackle at the top of D to stop the player in his tracks. This was short lived as Merison was dismissed with a yellow card and could only watch from the sideline as Penguin squeezed a penalty flick past Mike Sutton.

Saxons back down to ten men maintained their determination. It was another searching ball forward this time from defender Trevor Davis that found Julian Buss who set up Simmons for another goal.

Merison returned to the field as Saxons reverted to their attacking formation. Penguin began to tire under the constant pressure and it was 'assist-ace' Julian Buss, who eliminated the keeper with a perfect square pass that allowed Whitaker to slap the ball home for Saxons 8th goal of the game.

Saxons return home next weekend to face Mid-Sussex for a 15.00 pushback at Horntye Park.

Saxons: M.Sutton, Davis, Coleman, Bontoft, Merison, Chapman, Stroud, Kemsley, Dyas, Buss, Simmons, Whitaker.
