Two goals from penalty corners and a clean sheet saw Saxon's return home with three points.

Saxon's made a strong start against a youthful Middleton side winning a series of penalty corners that were saved by the on form Middleton Keeper.

Midfield errors allowed Middleton to counter attack but they found the defence of Bontoft, Coleman and Ford too solid to penetrate.

Saxons moved the ball well with a succession of well executed passes finding the foot of a Middleton defender in the D to win another penalty corner. Man of the match Dom Ford played the ball from the top of the D for Simmons to go for a flat stick deflection. The ball somehow bobbled over Simmons stick, nutmegging the wrong footed keeper to make the score 0-1 to Saxons.

Saxons continued the pressure and a reckless tackle gave Saxons another penalty corner. Roger Coleman stepped up to fire in a blistering shot from the top of the D, a frustrated Middleton defender too slow to move out of the way kicked the ball into the goal. Saxons going into the half time break 0-2.

Saxons returned to the field ready to score more. Middleton had changed formation and tactics and the second half although played in good spirit was frustrating for both sides.

Game play became end-to-end with Middleton breaking down Saxons press on a couple of occasions resulting in fast breaks forward. One of which resulted in a penalty corner for Middleton who slipped the ball right for a fierce strike on goal that was dealt with spectacularly by a 'cat-like' Sutton who dived and made a perfect stick clearance to keep a clean sheet.

Saxons responded with breaks of their own. The determined Buss played a stinger of ball forward that caught the Middleton centre back in the 'nether region' and left him doubled over on the astro. This seemed to subdue the Middleton defence and Saxons continued to apply pressure for a third goal.

A Saxons goal scoring opportunity was thwarted when a Middleton player reached out with his hand and stopped a well placed pass into the D. The infringement was too blatant to ignore and he was immediately despatched with a yellow card to the sin-bin. It was all Saxons for the remaining five minutes against a 10 man Middleton who defended valiantly until the final whistle.

A good three away points for Saxons, with the results at the top of the table going their way enabling Saxons move two points above East Grinstead into 4th place. Saxons face third placed Hailsham, at Horntye, on the 14th January and aim to repeat the performance that gave them a 0-2 away win earlier in the season. A win will give Saxons third spot in Sussex Open Division Three.

Saxons: Sutton, Bontoft, Coleman, Ford, Buss(c), Merison, Kemsley, Wilson, Dyas, Whitaker, Simmons, Tryphonos.
