An early break saw Harry Dyas latch on to a well placed through ball and slot the ball past the keeper for a wonder goal inside 17 seconds.

The early Saxons goal unsettled Worthing who found themselves pressed by Saxons for the first fifteen minutes.

A change of formation and tactics from Worthing helped the home team gain the run of play. A break from Worthing saw a dangerously played ball glance off the back of Dan Bontoft's head. Forcing the defender to return to the bench for treatment. 'Swiss Army' knife captain Buss quickly making the switch from centre forward to defence and reorganising the midfield and forward line.

Saxons tried to maintain a high press but some untidy marking led to a series of long balls that outwitted Saxons. One well placed long pass found an opposition winger high up the field, who despite the scrambled efforts of Saxons defence was able to set up their centre forward for an equaliser. Saxons responded with penetrating attacks into the Worthing half but just could not pick out that all important final pass into the D.

At half time the score was level at 1-1. Saxons were not satisfied with a point and returned to the field with dogged determination.

The second half started slowly with Saxons returning to their starting formation and holding Worthing in their own half. Despite Saxons renewed vigour, Worthing fought equally as hard to break down the press and find a scoring opportunity of their own. Saxons press was breached and a break away attack allowed a Worthing forward to receive a pass and go 'one-on-one' with keeper Mike Sutton. It was the quick thinking Sutton who came out on top when he closed down the attacker, who panicked and shot straight at Sutton.

Saxons continued to probe the home side for an opening to attack. Some good build up play saw Tony Wright mis-cue a shot and lose a golden scoring opportunity. Buss made some changes in the midfield and it was not long before a great passing move between Paul Merison and Dom Whitaker allowed Saxons to breach the Worthing midfield. Whitaker then returning the ball to Merison who released to Buss. Buss then deftly reverse stick dribbled the ball into the D and crossed the ball to Simmons who swept the ball home.

Committed to getting a third goal Saxons efforts were rewarded with a penalty corner. A well worked training ground corner routine unfortunately broke down with Ben Kemsley putting the ball wide of the goal. Saxons mindful that the clock was now counting down the last 30 seconds, maintained possession of the ball until the final whistle.

Saxons go into the Christmas break 5th in Sussex open division three and will face 8th placed Middleton 2nd XI away on 7th January 2017.

Saxons: M. Sutton, Ford, Bontoft, Buss, Davies, Merison, Stroud, Chapman, Kemsley, Simmons, Whitaker, Wright, Dyas.
