Saxons Men's 3's thrill the crowd with a 3-0 home victory, pulling off their third win in succession to move up to 5th spot in Sussex Open Division 3.

With a vocal home crowd desperate for a first home win of the day, Saxons started in their usual style pressing the opposition well and making it difficult for the visitors to form a viable attack.

Saxons attacked the D and were finding it difficult to score in open play against an experienced Crowborough defence. The deadlock was finally broken when a series of penalty corners gave Buss a goal scoring opportunity with a rocket into the bottom corner of the goal.

Saxons looked calm, holding plenty of space and in control of the game. Crowborough were challenged by the midfield 'dynamo' Ed Stroud and the 'evergreen' Richard Pertwee. Saxons switched play and moved the ball around well to create space for 'man of the match' Pertwee to pick up a pass and comfortably put the ball beyond the visitors keeper for goal number two.

Crowborough responded with sorties into the Saxons 23m area, the defence and keeper Sutton on fine form, thwarting every attack.

Saxons went into the break 2-0 up, frustrated by a number of missed scoring opportunities. The Saxons half time talk was to encourage forwards not to go for the impossible shot, instead get a short or lay the ball off for someone else with a better goal scoring opportunity.

The second half started with an early break by Crowborough, Saxons initially on the back foot cleared the ball up field for the team to pen Crowborough in their own half.

Clearly the Crowborough half time team talk had been to closely mark 'Stroud'. Saxons were forced to find an alternative route via the midfield and Buss picked out a pass to Ben Simmons in the oppositions D who wrong footed his marker to turn and fire a superb reverse into the net.

The Crowborough captain commented at the end of the game 'the midfield was too strong, despite instructions to close down saxons number '7' at half time...'

Saxons: Mike Sutton (GK), Roger Coleman, Julian Buss, Dan Bontoft, Paul Merison, Ed Stroud, Ed Chapman, Richard Pertwee, Ben Kemsley, Tony Wright, Dom Whitaker, Ben Simmons and Harry Dyas.

Saxons Three's take on East Grinstead away at 12.00 this coming Saturday 10th December 2016.
