Four star performance nets away win.

Saxons applied pressure to St Francis for the first 10 minutes. Despite Merison not hearing the umpires whistle and hitting the backboard, Saxons still found it hard to convert their early attacking breaks into goals.

Eventually a foul gave Saxons a penalty corner and a scoring opportunity. A well taken strike from the top of the 'D' saw Buss's crunching shot stopped by a defenders foot on the line. Buss stepped up for the penalty, flicking the ball under the cross bar and just out of reach of the goalkeeper.

The remainder of the first half was end-to-end play with the Saxons defence of Buss, Coleman and Bontoft repelling St Francis counter attacks. With some solid outfield play Sutton was barely tested.

Half time saw the score at 0-1 to Saxons. A half time talk from Buss stressed the importance of maintaining the pressure on St Francis and the need to get another goal to cushion Saxons lead.

St Francis restarted the second half with renewed determination overrunning Saxons and forcing errors. Saxons regained their composure and it was Simmons who found the net to get that important second goal.

The team pressed for a third goal. Pertwee making some mazy runs down the middle, and with a frustrated cry of 'come on, come on' to the forward line, finding Tony Wright who responded by smashing the ball into the goal.

Undeterred St Francis continued to mount attacks as Saxons firmly pressed. Stroud and Kemsley frequently turning over play and counter attacking. Finally one of the St Francis forwards managed to break through on goal, and it was Sutton who dealt cooly with the oncoming player, clearing the ball off the side line.

Saxons mounted a last minute foray into the St Francis D, the umpire seeing a St Francis infringement awarded a penalty corner on the final whistle. The whole team packed around the D determined to get another goal, the first attempt finding a defenders foot winning a further penalty corner. The resulting shot on goal saved by the keeper, and then picked up by Saxons who moved the ball around before a scuffed goal bound reverse shot from Whitaker was helped on it's way by Kemsley to make the final score 0 - 4 to Saxons.

Post match Captain Buss said 'that was the best team performance this season'. Man of the Match was the tireless Richard Pertwee.

Saxon's Men's 3's hope to see the return of injured defender Trevor Davies, when they take on Crowborough 3's at Horntye Park this coming Saturday.

Saxons: Mike Sutton (GK), Roger Coleman, Julian Buss, Dan Bontoft, Paul Merison, Ed Stroud, Richard Pertwee, Ben Kemsley, Tony Wright, Dom Whitaker, Ben Simmons and Harry Dyas.
