Knowing the strength of the opposition they would be facing, Saxons set up to sit deeper and frustrate the home side, with the aim to catch them on the break with quick counters. Brock Prestney-Vaughn on his return to the 1XI keeper position made a couple of good early saves before the plan worked, with the home side overcommitted in attack Saxons were able to break away and took the lead after a move which ended with Will Orr firing home.

The lead, however, was short lived, Saxons were perhaps unlucky to concede a short corner, but the home side took the opportunity to equalise emphatically. The direct running of Alex Coombs, Jonny Orr and Andy Acott remained a threat for Saxons on the counter, but it was the Kent side who went in ahead at half time when their talismanic striker found space in the D and put them ahead.

Saxons continued to work hard but the task became harder when one of their players was awarded a 10-minute sin bin, and Old Williamsonians made the visitors pay picking up 3 goals in the period as the game was taken out of reach.

Andy Acott did grab a deserved goal for Saxons, but the Hastings side could not prevent the title challengers from adding more goals to their tally in the closing moments as they game ended 8-2.

The defeat leaves Saxons second from bottom in a place which would be expected to see them relegated with two games remaining. Saxons host Holcombe on Saturday in a must win fixture before closing out the season away to bottom of the league Maidstone on the 21st.
