Brighton and Hove Men's II's 8 -v- 4 South Saxons Men's I's

Needing as many points as possible from the last games of the season to avoid relegation, Saxons knew this game could help keep them safe. It was a hard fought opening to the game which saw both teams come out cagey. Brighton struck first through a short corner, but Saxons rallied to score a deflected goal of their own.

An unfortunate error gave Brighton a clear run on goal and their striker made no mistake with the finish. With the game poised at 2-1, Saxons felt they could have rallied, however, two more goals before half time for Brighton and some good saves from their keeper settled the visitor’s nerves.

Saxons came out strong in the second half, looking for goals that would help them regain a foothold in the game. Some good work down the right flank from Jonny Orr allowed space for a pull back which Jamie Busbridge tucked away. Saxons were then caught out at the back, with another goal going Brighton’s way.

Saxons kept pushing and scored another goal through an Alex Coombes drag flick. But it was Brighton that were to take all the points as more breakaway goals allowed them to move into an unbeatable position. Even a final Jamie Busbridge goal for Saxons wouldn’t trouble Brighton. Final score 8-4 to Brighton.
